Are you hip to the lingo of WOW? Not everyone knows what an orc is or what it means to ride a gryphon. But even if you’re a newbie, now is a great time to dive into World of Warcraft. This game is an MMORPG, or massively multiplayer online role-playing game, and it’s one of the most popular MMORPGs in the world. In fact, it’s so popular that it will be a movie soon.
To start, you first need to choose a server. This server is your game world. Next, choose a character, like an orc, a human, or a troll. Some characters belong to an alliance. Others belong to a horde. After you have a character, you’re ready to play! You can start exploring the server and unite with other players. Be careful because World of Warcraft is so immersive that you might want to play all day long!

Gary: Do you play MMORPGs?
Romeo: That’s the World of…
Gary: Massive multiplayer online role-playing game.
Romeo: Well, which game in particular?
Gary: WOW.
Romeo: What? I’m a newbie at that.
Gary: Oh, sorry! World of Warcraft.
Romeo: I know. I’m just, I’m not hip to the lingo yet.
Gary: It’s all good.
Romeo: I’m still a newbie, so…
Gary: OK. It’s an immersive experience, so just make sure you have a free weekend or maybe a free week… month, actually. Yeah, a free month will help you really dive into the game. You’ve got to play as an orc, though.
Romeo: OK, OK. I imagine that means you play too?
Gary: Yeah, I’ve been playing for a few years now.
Romeo: So then, how can I find you? Do you have, like, an account name?
Gary: I’ll send you the information, you can just sign in, we’ll hop onto the same server and we’ll be in the same group. We’ll walk around and explore, learn all about the alliance, and we can unite together.
Romeo: Well, yeah, I mean we have a common enemy. I would hope that you would be on my side.
Gary: Well, we’ll see how long that lasts.
Romeo: Wow.
Gary: Wow.
Romeo: All right, all right, let’s do it.
Gary: Here we go.

Discussion
Gary has been playing World of Warcraft for a few years. Romeo is a newbie. Romeo is confused when Gary asks him if he plays MMORPGs, so Gary decides to teach him a little about the game. First, Gary explains that WOW is not a quick game. Because it’s such an immersive experience, it takes a lot of time to play. Next, Gary tells Romeo to play as an orc.
Romeo wants to know how he can find Gary in the game. He also hopes that Gary will be on his side and help him fight a common enemy. Gary says it’s easy to play together. They just need to sign in to the same server, and then they can unite and explore together. Gary’s not sure how long they’ll play on the same side, but he thinks it’s time to start playing!
Do you play World of Warcraft? Or do you have a different hobby?
