John

Steph:  What was the last good movie you saw?

John:  I just saw Ocean’s Twelve this weekend.

Steph:  Oh. The sequel to Ocean’s Eleven?

John:  Yeah.

Steph:  Cool.

John:  It wasn’t as good as the first one.

Steph:  Really?

John:  Yeah. Did you like the first one?

Steph:  Um, I did. I, after I saw it, I felt like I was living Ocean’s Eleven.

John:  Why?

Steph:  Well. It was weird because I felt like everything was preplanned. You know how in Ocean’s Eleven, it’s like they go from point A to point B? And everything is all about the timing?

John:  Mmmhmm.

Steph:  I had to go to the airport the next day, and it was all about timing. And I felt as if my life were planned around Ocean’s Eleven. It was really crazy.

John:  That is weird, or crazy, I guess. I thought it was just cool. I liked all the dialog and everything. And it was kinda funny. But this one, the second one, Ocean’s Twelve, it wasn’t as funny, wasn’t as interesting, and the plot didn’t really exist.

Steph:  It’s always that way with a sequel.

John:  Yeah. That’s true. Have you ever seen a good sequel?

Steph:  No. But the third one is always a good one.

John:  Yeah. They rebound back from the bad second.

Steph:  I think they do it on purpose.

John:  So I would say probably just rent, don’t go to the theatre.

Steph:  Not a big screen movie, huh?

John:  No.

Steph:  OK. All right.

Discussion

It’s really weird how that works out with the sequel not quite being as good as the original. Maybe when we see the original, we like it because it is a new idea and the second one is just a letdown.
Have you ever like the sequel to a movie as much as or more than the original? Do you go to see sequels?
