Happy Valentine’s Day!

Valentine’s Day is the day of the year to express your romantic love. Though it began as a day of celebration in the Catholic Church for the martyr Saint Valentine, it has evolved into a day of celebration of love and compassion for people near and dear to us.

Listen to Zach tell me about his Valentine’s Day plans.

Zach:  So, Dave, do you have any big plans for Valentine’s Day? Are you taking anyone out?

Dave:  I’ve got to find a date, first.

Zach:  Oh yeah.

Dave:  Hopefully, that will come around soon. How about you?

Zach:  My girlfriend and I usually go out for dinner. Um, we like to go out and get Indian food.

Dave:  Oh yeah? Is that a tradition on Valentine’s Day?

Zach:  Yeah, it’s becoming one. It seems like all the Indian restaurants have a special Valentine’s Day, kind of, dinner.

Dave:  Yeah.

Zach:  Um, I don’t know why, but it’s very nice.

Dave:  Do you have any other traditions? Do you give flowers, twelve red roses or one single rose? Or what do you do?

Zach:  Well, I’m sure that she wishes that I did more of that. Um, but, yes: roses are always key.

Dave:  Yeah.

Zach:  Um, a card is nice. And it’s also good to remember things early in the day.

Dave:  Definitely.

Zach:  Give a phone call or some kind of reminder that it’s a special day.

Discussion

The traditional date in the U.S. involves dinner and a movie, though there are plenty of fun, more creative things to do on Valentine’s Day. Take a hot air balloon ride. Place an advertisement in a newspaper declaring your love. What is the most exciting date you’ve ever had?

In the good old days in this part of the world, going out on a date was virtually unknown. But it was not all that bad. People used to organize dances where we made friends. At one dance, there was a shy Indian girl who refused to dance. Fortunately, after a while she wanted to have a Coke. So we got the barkeeper to lace it with some Rum. She was going wild on the floor after about 15 minutes!

Love in the air and flowers are on their way. Feburary has long been a month of romance. No matter girls or boys will welcome that day will have some special moment happen to them.  Beautiful roses, good smell chocolate and delicate cards and so on.     Wow How romantic it is to have dinner at a cosy restaurant with the one you loved.
