Hello! Happy Holidays!
Gifts are one of the most exciting parts of the holiday season. Giving and getting gifts is an essential part of both the Christmas and Hanukkah traditions. Opening gifts is always fun, because the things inside the wrapping paper are usually a surprise.
Miguel and John are both happy about the gifts they received this year. Listen in to their conversation to hear what they got.

John:  Did you get anything cool for Christmas?

Miguel:  Yeah! Actually I got a lot of cool stuff, but it wasn’t your normal, everyday Christmas gifts.

John:  You mean like CDs and books and stuff?

Miguel:  Yeah. I mean I think you expect to get, uh, CDs, books, a friend of mine got a DVD player, but I got some sort of alternative gifts, like, um, some handmade soap and, uh, some candles made out of coconut shells. So, all of it was just a little bit different, you know.

John:  Did you give traditional gifts, or…

Miguel:  I think my gifts were pretty traditional. I gave my mom a knife set, which, uh, she really needed. She’s been using the same knives since I was about three years old, so I figured it was about time for some new ones. What about you?

John:  I actually did really well. I, I, uh, made a small list for my family, of the things that I needed, and so I got all those things – plus some extra re-gifts. My dad and mom both got some things that they didn’t want, so they gave ‘em to me. But you can’t tell anybody.

Miguel:  What were the re-gifts?

John:  Well, the one from my dad was a score. It was a tool set, and I’ve been needing tools for a long time, and he already had some. But it was from my uncle, so you can’t say anything to them about it.

Miguel:  Alright, I’ll keep that on the down low.

Discussion

It sounds like John got some really great stuff this year. He says that he made a list of the things he needed and he got everything on it! That’s amazing!
Miguel’s Christmas sounds like it was a little bit different. He probably didn’t make a list, so he didn’t have any expectations. He must have had a lot of fun opening his gifts because the things he got were all such a big surprise to him.
Happy New Year!
Beth
