Using Humor to learn English

I understand “so far so good” as:

” more or less”

as an english teacher I think using humor in teachin english is a good way but we should notice what kind of examples we are using,they should be about l2 culture to have possitive influences on the learners.

Humor Lesson No. 2 – So far, So Good:

There was a man who slipped and fell off a 6-story building.  Around the third floor someone hollered to him as he was falling: “how’s it going?”  The man replied, “so far, so good!”

There was an Scotsman, an Englishman and Claudia Schiffer sitting together in a carriage in a train going through Wales. Suddenly the train went through a tunnel and as it was an old style train,there were no lights in the carriages and it went completely dark. Then there was this kissing noise and the sound of a really loud slap. When the train came out of the tunnel, Claudia Schiffer and the Scotsman were sitting as if nothing had happened and the Englishman had his hand against his face as he had been slapped. The Englishman was thinking: ‘The Scottish fella must have kissed Claudia Schiffer and she missed him and slapped me instead.’ Claudia Schiffer was thinking: ‘The English fella must have tried to kiss me and actually kissed the Scotsman and got slapped for it.’ And the Scotsman was thinking: ‘This is great. The next time the train goes through a tunnel I’ll make that kissing noise and slap that English b**tard again .

Dear Sir, Your idea of learning english through humor is very intelligent. I want to contribute a lesson I have learned from Collins, “Improve your Grammar”.

Sometimes by misplacing modifier we can create hilariously ambiguous sentences:

I saw you in my underwear!

could mean either I saw you when I was wearing only my underwear or, more ominously, I saw you wearing my underwear!

Such a sentence could create not only confusion, but a most alarming scene. 

Few more these such instances:

we can fit you in a new swimsuit that flatters – right over the phone!

You see few signposts rambling around wales.

Send your ideas on growing dwarf roses on a postcard.

....................

Hope that would be useful either to place modifiers at correct place, or deliberately misplaced it for creating humor.

 I’ll try to traslate a litte joke.

A children is riding his bicycle.

 ” mum, look at me, without hands

mum, look at me, without feet

muum, look at me, without teeth

For the benefit of beginners who may not understand the joke, I’ll give an explanation.

Explanation of the joke:

A hunter went to hunt for a lion.  He found one and tried to shoot it, but the gun was empty of bullets.  Now, he was in danger of the lion eating him!  So the hunter started praying, and the lion started praying.

The joke is this: The hunter was praying for his life and the lion was praying to give thanks for the meal he’s getting ready to receive, that is, to eat the hunter!

Subject= Hunter     Verb= Hunt     Object= Lion

The word “Daddy” is a common name you can call anybody on an informal casual basis and you want to place emphasis on the subject.

Yes, it’s helpful. If you keep you knowledge with emotions nad senses it’ gives you more interest and awesome result.
