Go Super to Listen Go Super!

A superstition is a belief or an action about humans’ ability to influence events. A superstition often has to do with luck. For example, some people believe that if they find a four-leaf clover, it will bring them good luck. Other people believe that walking under a ladder is bad luck.

Another popular superstition is to keep your fingers crossed. Some people believe that crossing their middle finger over their index finger will bring them good luck, or help their wishes to come true. In fact, this superstition is so popular that people often use the phrase to simply mean, “I’m really hoping this will happen!” even if they don’t literally cross their fingers.

That’s what Hayden Panettiere means when she says she’s keeping her fingers crossed. She may not actually be wrapping her fingers around each other, but she’s really hoping that she gets the opportunity to be a country musician someday.

What superstitions do you have? Do you think they really work to influence events?

Like most of us say ‘OH MY GOD…’ when something bad happens…

but that doesn’t mean that saying ‘OH MY GOD…’ will make everything alright…

or that we think we’re not strong enough to bear that…

but that’s just an expression… :)

I agree with bellaboo2422…

but those who do this that doesn’t mean they believe in superstitions or they have lack of self confidence cuz sometimes it’s just like an expression & nothing more than that… :)

in my view point ‘fingers crossed’ is just an experssion of hope for the best. it does’t mean something is goin to happen good for sure. i personly don’t belive on superstitions like many of my friends have mentioned. i think of being a superstitious person means a person having weak innerself and lack of will power. a strong one who belives on himself does’t pays attention toward things like that. self trust and confidence onself is a priceless thing in the world. so the crux is actully, its good to hope for the best or be optimistic about the thing but sea changes are only made possible by our own possitive efforts for the cause. choice is ours we opt for what.

I don’t believe in any superstitions.

The expression ” fingers crossed” is not common in Ukraine. So I never use it. Nevertheless many people believe in such strange things like above-mentioned. It’s a real fun for me to think that it can help. Still if a person believes that having fingers clossed can help, and he will do all for achieving the goal, no doubt, it can work  in a positive way.:)

In my opinion it could be a superstition. If you believe in something what doesn’t really help it is a kind of superstition. So crossed fingers is a one of positive superstition:)

Superstition are so ingrained in people´s mind that in America ( I believe )  hotels with  13 floor  doesn´t exist.  Touch wood is opposite to fingers crossed , For instance: Some friends are talking about a party  they were invited , and  one of them  mentions that  certain person that they know  and  deslike is also attending, showing surprise at knowing the news  one of the friends  cries out : Ohh no,” I touch wood ” and if he can´t find a piece of wood at hand  he touches the head of one of his friends.  Everybody laughs !!

“It is strange – but true;for the truth is always strange; stranger than fiction”.(Byron).

Although superstition was more alive a hundred years ago, there are still superstitious people around, both young and old.We still continue reckoning with superstitions.Even if you don,t believe in good or bad omens, you,ve heard about them, and thus our rational thinking can be tricked.

There are luck superstitions, wedding superstitions, bad luck superstitions, then fortune telling, horoscope…It,d be difficult to find a person who knows nothing about black cats, broken mirrors and walking under the ladder.More and more people ask for the help of fortune tellers, and how many believe in horoscope.

I,ve found 6 top superstitions : touching wood;crossing fingers;avoiding ladders; a smashed mirror; carring a charm; avoiding the number 13.

To tell the truth,I believed in superstitions when was a child, but now—no,it,s not for me.

I agree with friendlover. Optimistic persons can do more:) So with or without keeping fingers crossed we should believe that everything will be OK:)

We should keep our fingers crossed. I mean we need to be optimistic.

We don’t have to do that using our fingers but we should always hope the best and

see good sides. That is the meaning of this slang. Right?

I do it yeah… everytime I’m in trouble I’m doing it…

I close my eyes… & whisper the words ‘no… no… no…’ when I know there’s something worst is gonna happen…

When I feel I’m gonna lose my control… I take a deep breathe in… & I imagine that I’m breathing the peace of mind in… then I breathe out imagining that I’m breathing my anger out…

’& IT WORKS FOR ME SOMETIMES…’

I clitch my fist & keep it clithed for someminutes when I see something bad is happening & I can’t make it alright…

but no matter what… these things maybe are for taking your mind away for a moment or two… I don’t believe in anything to sort out my problems except my efforts to sort them out…

& that’s the thing I never stop… :)
