Many people think animals are soothing. It’s nice to pet a cat or play with a dog. It’s fun to look at aquariums. It’s relaxing to watch a bunch of butterflies in a garden. Other people don’t like spending time with animals, especially if they’re allergic to animal dander. If they pet a cat, for example, their nose will soon be stuffed up. How do you feel about animals?

If you’re an animal lover, there’s a special type of cafe that you’ll probably be into. In 1998, the world’s first cat cafe opened in Taiwan. Now, you can find a cafe with an animal theme in many countries. There are cat cafes, dog cafes, rabbit cafes, and even owl cafes! Many of these cafes are in Japan, where people like to frequent places where they can spend time with animals.

Jordin is deathly allergic to cats. Will she go to the cat cafe with Brian? Listen to today’s English lesson to find out!

Brian:  So, Jordin, I have to go do some work. I don’t know if you wanted to come with me. I’m actually going to go to a cat cafe that I frequent pretty regularly, and I thought you might be interested.

Jordin:  That’s really a nice offer, but I am actually deathly allergic to cats. It really does not make me feel well being around them. I’m sorry to say that I will not be able to join you in that adventure.

Brian:  Ah, I understand. Are you allergic to their dander specifically? Because they have some hairless cats.

Jordin:  Yeah, I don’t really know, actually, if it’s just the dander. All I know is any time I’m around cats, my face puffs out, and my nose gets really stuffed up, and the rooftop of my mouth itches.

Brian:  Would you ever be interested in going to, like, a cafe that had other types of animals?

Jordin:  You know, I love fish. If we could go to a cafe that had fish, I’d be into that. It’s so peaceful for me to watch them just swim around, you know.

Brian:  Yeah. I went to one in California that was like a coffee shop, but there were a bunch of aquariums.

Jordin:  Oh my gosh, yes!

Brian:  And it was so soothing, and I just loved the animal theme.

Jordin:  I would love that animal theme. Probably, that’s the only animal theme I would like.

Brian has work to do, so he invites Jordin to go to a cat cafe with him. After all, it’s a good place to frequent if a person wants to see cats and get work done. Brian doesn’t know, though, that Jordin is deathly allergic to cats. Cats make her nose stuffed up. Brian asks if she’s allergic to cat dander. The cafe has hairless cats, so maybe, Jordin could go and not feel sick.

Jordin has another idea. Jordin loves fish. She thinks it’s soothing to watch them swim through their aquariums. If Brian wanted to go to a cafe with a fish theme, she would be into that plan. Brian tells her that he went to a special coffee shop in California once. The coffee shop had a bunch of aquariums so people could watch the fish. He agrees that a cafe with fish is a very soothing place to be.

Do you want to visit a cat cafe someday? Or are you allergic to cats?

Animals are very therapeutic. They are so cute, not judgemental, not criticizing that you cannot help but loving them. The other day I saved my cat from the other cat and he thankfully brought me a mouse. So they re grateful and very polite. When I sing a song for my cat, it’s a huge stress- reliever. To understand this is the only way to get your own cutie or go into th Cafe full of cats.

As metioned in this article, some people get allergic to animals probably because of their various individual physiques. However, the other reason for those who are not inclined to stay close to animals is that they are afraid of being caught the parasitic infections. But I thought that’s absolutely ok only if she or he takes good care of pets , bathing them and keeping them healthy. So you are a pet lover, aren’t you?
